Condition Assessment
Before washing, we inspect your deck for loose fixings, minor rot, or areas where the oil has heavily worn away. Identifying these small issues early prevents costly structural repairs down the track.

Protect your investment with regular, professional care. Instead of waiting for your timber to fail and require a costly full restoration, our maintenance system includes deep chemical washing and re-oiling to keep your deck looking beautiful and protected year-round.

Many homeowners believe that once a deck is built or restored, it only needs a quick hose down every summer. However, the harsh Sydney sun and coastal rain quickly break down protective oils. If a deck is left unprotected, the timber dries out, begins to splinter, and UV oxidation turns the boards a dull grey.
At DeckCare, we treat maintenance as a preventative system. By regularly deep-cleaning the timber to remove dirt and mould, and reapplying premium penetrating oils before the wood completely dries out, we extend the life of your deck and save you from the high cost of a heavy mechanical restoration in the future.
Proper maintenance is the difference between a deck that lasts 5 years, and one that lasts 25.

We follow a simple but highly effective methodology to keep your outdoor timber healthy. Here is how our regular maintenance program protects your deck without the need for heavy sanding.
Before washing, we inspect your deck for loose fixings, minor rot, or areas where the oil has heavily worn away. Identifying these small issues early prevents costly structural repairs down the track.

We avoid damaging high-pressure washing. Instead, we use professional-grade timber cleaners and neutralising agents to safely draw out ingrained dirt, mould, and surface oxidation, restoring the timber's natural PH balance.

If required, we perform light spot-sanding on stubborn stains or punch down any raised screws that have moved during the year, ensuring the surface is perfectly smooth and safe before finishing.

To prevent your timber from drying out or cracking, we apply a fresh coat of premium penetrating oil. This rejuvenates the wood from within, repels water, and restores the rich, natural colour of your deck.

Homeowners often hire a general cleaner to blast their deck with a high-pressure hose, or they simply roll a new layer of cheap hardware-store stain over a dirty surface. Over the years, we have seen how these “quick washes” severely damage the timber fibers and cause the new finish to peel within months.
We do not treat maintenance lightly. The right maintenance strategy is chosen based on gently cleaning the wood chemically, restoring its PH balance, and nourishing it with penetrating oils—not just blasting away dirt and hoping for the best.
Need help understanding the best maintenance routine for your deck? We can assess it during our inspection.
We use specialised timber chemicals and gentle washing to draw out dirt and oxidation without damaging the wood.
Often rely on aggressive high-pressure washing (water blasting), which splinters the timber and creates a rough, fuzzy surface.
We use a neutralising wash to restore the timber’s natural PH balance, ensuring the wood is ready to absorb the oil deeply.
Often skip neutralising, meaning the new oil sits on top of an unbalanced surface and breaks down faster.
We use premium penetrating oils that soak into the grain, actively preventing the timber from drying out or warping.
Often apply cheap, film-forming acrylics that look shiny for a few weeks but eventually trap moisture and peel.
We check for raised screws, loose boards, and minor rot during the clean, addressing small issues before they become big structural problems.
Usually just clean the surface and ignore underlying safety or structural hazards.
We do not believe in cosmetic, high-pressure quick fixes. Our standard is built around actually nourishing your timber so it lasts for decades.
We never blast your deck with excessive water pressure. Our process relies on professional chemistry, not brute force, protecting the integrity of your boards.
Walls, sliding doors, and glass footings are protected. We don’t leave your property splashed with dirty water or stray oil.
We never rush the oiling stage. We ensure the timber is completely dry after washing before applying any finish, preventing moisture from getting trapped.
Our goal isn't just to make the deck look wet and shiny for a day. We aim to deeply nourish the wood so your deck survives the harsh Sydney summer.
This is the standard behind every maintenance program we put our name to. If you want a team that genuinely cares about the long-term health of your timber, let’s inspect your deck and discuss the right approach.
Every maintenance job is different, which is why we quote based on the actual condition of your timber. The price depends on the size of the deck, how long it has been since the last oiling, the level of dirt or oxidation present, and access to the area.
Our goal is to provide a clear, comprehensive maintenance plan. A good quote should do more than just show a final number—it should explain exactly what cleaning chemicals and premium oils are included. If we uncover minor issues like loose screws or beginning rot during our inspection, we will always discuss them with you before any work proceeds.

View Example QuoteWe believe in transparent pricing right from the start. To give you a rough idea of what to expect, we’ve outlined our most common deck maintenance scenarios below. Your final quote will depend on the current state of the timber and the level of chemical cleaning required.
The most straightforward and cost-effective scenario. The deck was oiled within the last 12-18 months and simply looks a bit dull or dusty. It requires a standard professional wash to remove surface dirt, followed by a single nourishing coat of premium penetrating oil to restore its rich colour and UV protection.
Guide Price: from $30 + GST per m²
If the deck hasn’t been treated for a few years, the oil has likely broken down entirely, and the timber has started to turn grey from UV oxidation and deep-seated grime. This requires a much stronger chemical treatment, a deep neutralising wash, and typically two coats of oil to properly rehydrate the dry wood.
Guide Price: from $50 + GST per m²
Sometimes a deck is generally in good condition but has specific areas (like around a BBQ or under pot plants) with stubborn grease stains, watermarks, or minor splintering. In addition to the standard wash and oil, this scenario includes targeted spot-sanding to smooth out these problem areas before the finish is applied.
Guide Price: Assessed individually based on required prep.
Elevated decks, apartments, or courtyards with tight access require different logistics. Moving cleaning equipment manually and safely managing chemical runoff in confined spaces requires more time and care. Because of this, these projects often carry a slightly higher labour cost per square metre.
Guide Price: Assessed individually on-site.
Note: These guide prices are for the cleaning and oiling process only. If your deck has an existing peeling varnish or acrylic stain, it will require full chemical stripping (Restoration), which is quoted differently. Any required carpentry repairs are also quoted separately.
We don’t just wash the deck and walk away. Our professional maintenance service is a comprehensive package designed to safely clean your timber, restore its natural PH balance, and apply the right protective oil to ensure it survives the harsh Sydney seasons.
We are based in Northern Beaches and Lower North Shore, delivering high-quality deck restoration, building and repair services. While these are our core areas, we regularly complete projects across all Sydney suburbs. For larger or more complex projects, we’re also available to travel outside our main service areas.

Keeping your timber deck healthy doesn’t have to be complicated, but doing it wrong can cause expensive damage. Below are the answers to the most frequent questions we receive about cleaning, oiling, and protecting decks in Sydney.
If you’re not sure whether your deck needs a simple wash or a full restoration, book a free site inspection and we’ll assess it for you.
We highly advise against it. Aggressive high-pressure water blasting forces moisture deep into the timber and tears the wood fibres, leaving a “fuzzy” surface that splinters easily. We use professional chemical treatments to lift the dirt, followed by a gentle, low-pressure rinse that protects the integrity of your boards.
It depends on the timber species and its exposure to the sun and rain. Generally, in Sydney’s harsh climate, a fully exposed deck requires maintenance oiling every 12 to 18 months. Covered decks or those facing south may stretch to 24 months. If the timber looks dull or water stops “beading” on the surface, it’s time for a recoat.
We use both penetrating oils and premium water-based finishes, depending on the condition of the deck and the result we need to achieve.
Penetrating oils are often our preferred option for newer or well-maintained timber, where we want to preserve the natural grain and character of the wood while keeping future maintenance straightforward.
For older, heavily weathered or visually inconsistent decks — particularly where boards have aged differently or repairs and board replacements are present — a premium water-based finish may provide a more even and consistent appearance.
We don’t apply one system to every deck. We assess the timber, existing coating, exposure and overall condition first, then recommend the finishing system that will provide the best appearance, protection and long-term maintenance outcome.
Safety is our priority. We wet down surrounding vegetation before, during, and after the cleaning process to dilute any chemical run-off, ensuring your garden is safe. Once the deck is washed and the new oil is fully dry and cured, the area is completely safe for children and pets.
Absolutely not. Protecting your property is part of our strict standard. We carefully tape off or shield surrounding walls, glass footings, and pool edges to ensure the oil only goes exactly where it is supposed to—on the timber.
If the deck has simply greyed from UV oxidation (but isn’t peeling or heavily splintered), a deep chemical clean and timber rejuvenation wash can often draw out the grey and restore the natural colour without the need for mechanical sanding. We will confirm this during our site inspection.
Most standard maintenance jobs are completed over two days. On day one, we perform the deep chemical wash and neutralising treatment. We then leave the timber to dry completely overnight. On day two, we return to apply the protective penetrating oil.
Penetrating oils need time to migrate into the timber. Depending on the weather and temperature, you can usually walk on the deck in socks after 24 hours. We recommend waiting at least 48 to 72 hours before moving heavy furniture or BBQ units back onto the surface to prevent scuffing.
If you are not sure whether your deck needs restoration, repairs or a rebuild, we can inspect it properly, explain the right scope and provide a clear quote before any work begins.
