Mosman Tallowwood Re-Decking

Oiling is the final defense against Sydney's harsh climate. We apply premium penetrating oils that deeply nourish the timber, preventing it from drying out, cracking, and fading, while enhancing its natural raw beauty without peeling.

We frequently meet homeowners whose newly oiled decks have gone patchy or dark within weeks. This happens because high-quality oil cannot penetrate timber that is still coated in old varnish, trapped dirt, or grey UV oxidation.
To ensure your timber is truly protected, applying oil must be preceded by a deep chemical wash and proper sanding. That’s why we focus on complete restoration, ensuring the timber’s pores are open and ready to absorb the finish properly.

Proper oil application is about much more than just brushing liquid onto wood. It requires the timber to be completely dry, structurally sound, and pH-balanced. Here is exactly how we protect your deck.
You can’t oil a damp deck. If penetrating oil is applied to wet timber, it traps moisture inside, leading to rapid rot and a cloudy finish. Before any oiling begins, we ensure the timber has fully dried after the cleaning phase and verify that no rain is forecast during the critical curing window.

A professional finish shouldn't come at the cost of your property. Before we open a tin of oil, we carefully mask off surrounding walls, glass balustrades, pool coping, and nearby plants. This ensures the oil goes exactly where it belongs—deep into the timber grain—leaving your surrounding areas completely spotless.

Using professional, wide decking applicators, we apply the premium oil evenly along the full length of the boards to avoid overlap marks. We ensure the oil works its way deep between the gaps and over vulnerable end-grains, nourishing the wood from the inside out rather than just leaving a shiny film on top.

Whether it’s a brand-new hardwood build or a fully restored weathered deck, proper oiling makes all the difference. Explore how we’ve protected and enhanced different timber decks across the Northern Beaches and North Shore.

Choosing the right finish can be confusing, and improper application can ruin a deck. Below are the answers to the most common questions we receive about oiling timber decks in Sydney. If you have a specific concern, feel free to reach out.
Varnishes and acrylic stains form a plastic-like film on the surface. While they look shiny initially, the harsh sun eventually causes them to crack, peel, and trap moisture. Penetrating oils soak deep into the timber grain, nourishing the wood and repelling water from within. They never peel, making future maintenance much easier.
We strongly advise against letting new hardwood “weather” unprotected. Leaving raw timber exposed to the Sydney sun causes it to dry out, warp, and split rapidly. We apply a protective coat of penetrating oil immediately after construction to stabilise the wood.
It depends on the porosity of the timber. For a full restoration where the wood has been sanded back to bare timber, we typically apply up to three coats to fully rehydrate the boards. For annual maintenance on a healthy deck, one or two coats are usually sufficient.
Absolutely not. Protecting your property is a core part of our standard. We carefully tape off or shield surrounding walls, glass footings, and pool edges to ensure the finish only goes exactly where it is supposed to—on the timber.
