Heavy stripping, rejuvenation, sanding, and premium recoating across two balcony decks, fascia, privacy screen, and side gate.
This Castle Hill home had been undergoing renovation for several years, and its two large Jarrah balcony decks had gradually lost their original appearance. Paint marks, peeling and faded coatings, patchy areas, and exposed timber made the outdoor spaces look tired despite the hardwood itself remaining structurally sound. The owners considered a complete replacement, but restoration offered a far more cost-effective way to preserve the quality Jarrah and bring the balconies, privacy screen, fascia, and side gate back into harmony with the renovated home.
The main challenge was the scale and access. Two balcony decks were positioned directly above one another, so every stage had to be carefully sequenced from the upper level down to avoid wash residue or coating affecting completed areas below. Large Jarrah fascia boards on the second balcony also sat approximately five to six metres above ground and required the same full restoration process as the decking. Freshly renovated areas around the balconies demanded careful protection throughout stripping, washing, sanding, and coating.
With premium hardwood in sound structural condition, replacement was unnecessary. Our focus was on removing years of failed coating and renovation residue, then carefully restoring every visible Jarrah element so the entire rear balcony area would read as one consistent, renewed timber feature.
We stripped the old penetrating finish and paint contamination from both balcony decks, fascia boards, privacy screen, and side gate. After rejuvenating washes, each surface was carefully sanded to clean and even the Jarrah while preserving the existing timber and preparing it for a uniform new finish.
Working from the upper balcony downward, we applied Haymes UVEX Primer followed by two coats of Haymes Dexpress Natural. The same system was carried across the elevated fascia, privacy screen, and restored side gate, producing a consistent rich Jarrah appearance throughout the rear of the home.
The finished project completely changed the appearance of the rear balconies without the cost and disruption of a full rebuild. Paint marks, peeling coating, and faded areas were removed, revealing the character and grain of the original Jarrah. The balconies, fascia, privacy screen, and side gate now share a rich, natural brown finish that complements the renovated home and gives the existing hardwood a fresh new life.
