Multi-Level Tallowwood Deck Restoration in Cammeray

This Cammeray project involved restoring three stacked rear balcony decks across a high-end home, with more than 100m² of Tallowwood in total. Years of exposure had left the finish heavily faded in some areas, while the more exposed balconies had developed mould, moss, fungal growth, and a slippery surface. The client wanted to recover the warm, natural appearance of the original timber without replacing structurally sound boards, while creating a finish that would remain practical to maintain in the years ahead.

The greatest challenge was managing three balconies positioned directly above one another, which meant every stage had to be completed carefully from the top level down. Built-in outdoor kitchens, freshly painted surfaces, landscaping, and the home’s premium finishes all required extra protection throughout washing and stripping. We also had to remove years of penetrating-oil build-up and biological growth from heavily exposed sections, while bringing those weathered boards back into visual balance with timber closer to the house that had remained far better protected.
